Van Amersfoort owner: When Verstappen leaves, it will be Lawson's time

Van Amersfoort Racing Formula 2 team owner Frits van Amersfoort has advised Liam Lawson to accept the fact that he will have to play second fiddle to Red Bull Racing for a while.

“It will be interesting to see how he copes with Red Bull Racing. Driving alongside Max – and the experts agree – is very dangerous. Was Sergio Perez really that difficult to cope with the car or was he just mentally broken? Or maybe he mentally destroyed himself? It’s hard for me as an outsider to judge. But I speak from experience, Verstappen is not the easiest driver. He leaves almost no room for anyone else.

If Liam is smart, he will accept the fact that he will have to play second fiddle for a while at first. Of course, there will come a time when Max decides it’s time to move in a different direction and leave Formula 1. And then it will be Liam’s time. Until then, I hope Liam and Max can develop a relationship where they help each other rather than work against each other," Van Amersfoort told Motorsport.
